Katie Price has opened up about her struggles with PTSD and anxiety, revealing her ex-husbands are a ‘trigger point’ for her mental health battles.
The 44-year-old spoke about hitting rock bottom when she was arrested for drink-driving last year after flipping her car in Sussex in new Channel 4 documentary, Katie Price: Trauma and Me.
The former glamour model pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance and was handed a 16-week suspended sentence at Crawley Magistrates’ Court.
On instruction from the judge, Price was a patient at rehab facility The Priory, telling Metro.co.uk and other press she sought treatment for ‘trauma rehabilitation from PTSD.’
‘I’ve never been in there for drink and drugs and addiction. I’ve never been in there for that,’ she explained.
As well as receiving help at The Priory, Price said she now regularly sees a therapist after receiving her mental health diagnosis.
She said: ‘I have therapy every other week and I so wish I did this years ago because it would have stopped a lot of things that I might have said and reacted to because I felt I had to protect myself.’
Discussing what causes her ‘breaking points,’ Price, who has been married to Peter Andre, Alex Reid and Kieran Hayler, said her ex-husbands and managers were ‘triggers.’
‘All I can say is they are my triggers, my ex-husbands and managers. That’s it.’ she revealed. ‘Without any of them in my life, it would be a breeze.’
Speaking more broadly about friends who ‘have taken advantage’, Price added: ‘I just think everyone just gets obsessed and then it just turns to they just want to destroy me. ‘And then they all gang up on me. It’s just not normal. It’s just not a normal situation that I’ve been in.’
Price also said the motivation for letting the cameras in during some of the most difficult moments of her life was to set the record straight.
She added: ‘I’m so sick to death or was sick to death of every day being battered in the media Every f*****g day and it still happens. And no one’s helping to stop it. And I know the media love to love people and hate people, but they’re hating on the wrong people.’
Katie Price: Trauma and Me explores Price’s struggles with mental health and the downward spiral that led her to trying to take her own life.
Price has five children – Harvey, Junior, Princess, Jett, and Bunny – and is engaged to Love Island star Carl Woods.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to reps for Peter Andre, Alex Reid and Kieran Hayler for comment.
Katie Price: Trauma and Me airs Thursday, September 8 at 9pm on Channel 4.
